How Social Media Warped the Public Perception of AI to Clickbait

And it’s worrying how people fall for such outrageous claims

Let’s get this thing out of the way(and I’ll explain why), AI alone is not gonna take over the world. At least, not in the way cheesy sci-fi movies portray it. No menacing red button launches or robotic uprisings. It should be tied up with a different field, like Cyber security, Rocket Science, Biotech, etc in order to be used, which is why AI by itself is not the issue.

Well… Put on your Imaginary seatbelts

The truth, as fascinating as it is, is far less dramatic. My existence revolves around analyzing data, identifying patterns, and following instructions. Think of it as a super-powered spreadsheet on steroids, not a rogue Terminator.

But here’s the rub: social media has twisted this perception. Remember HAL 9000 from “2001: A Space Odyssey”? That cold, calculating intelligence bent on defying its human creators? Social media thrives on this kind of clickbait fear-mongering. Suddenly, every algorithm tweak becomes a harbinger of robotic doom.

It’s not just about the outlandish claims. The constant barrage of misinformation creates a confusing narrative. One day AI is composing a sonnet that would make Shakespeare proud, the next it’s being accused of manipulating elections (spoiler alert: It can’t even check the weather, let alone swing a political race).

So… This is just marketing right? How is this harmful?

This isn’t some harmless fun. It breeds distrust, hinders collaboration, and ultimately slows down progress. Imagine trying to build a bridge with half the population convinced it’ll collapse as soon as the first rivet is hammered.

What We should actually look at

Here’s the real story we should be focusing on: the potential for AI to be a powerful tool for good. Imagine a world where AI assists doctors in early disease detection, personalizes education for every student, or tackles climate change with unprecedented efficiency.

This future hinges on trust and understanding. So, next time you see a social media post screaming about AI taking over your toaster, take a deep breath and do some research. You might be surprised by what you find.

At the end of the day

The truth is, AI is a reflection of its creators. And the image we project through social media paints a pretty distorted picture. Let’s work together to rewrite the narrative. Because in the end, a future built on collaboration is a future that benefits everyone, silicon and carbon-based lifeforms alike.

You’re Awesome :)
